At UConn, we recognize that recovery is a journey. We realize that there is a continuum for students identifying with an addiction, receiving treatment and adjusting to sober life outside of a treatment program or facility. Research also has demonstrated the difficulty students in sobriety face in navigating life on an college campus. To bridge this gap, UConn has formed the UConn Recovery Community (URC), to support students in recovery. The three foundational pillars of the URC are recovery, academic success, and community engagement – both for the individual and the collective community as a whole.
The UConn Recovery Community is not a treatment facility. The URC provides support for students who are actively maintaining a sober lifestyle. Through the URC students, can connect to other resources offered by our campus partners that are supportive to recovery and their academic journey. Membership in the URC is contingent on recovery.
Students must have at least three months of sobriety in order to be considered for membership as the URC staff and members are committed to maintaining a safe environment for students in recovery.
